Gout in Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease.
نویسنده
چکیده
Gout complicating cyanotic congenital heart disease is infrequently recognized. Its occurrence in blood dyscrasias associated with hyperuricamia is well documented (Gliickmann, 1910; Weber, 1934; Barr et al., 1950; Hickling, 1953). In polycythemia rubra vera, gout occurs in 5 to 9 per cent of patients (Tinney et al., 1945; Videbaek, 1950; Lawrence, 1955) and the complication has been referred to in secondary polycythmmia (Gutman, 1953) and investigated in a man aged 50 with severe cyanotic congenital heart disease (Yu et al., 1953). However, relatively few patients with severe cyanotic heart disease and polycythemia extreme enough to lead to hyperuricemia survive into adult life when the manifestations of gout are most common. The purpose of this paper is to draw attention to the occurrence of gout with cyanotic congenital heart disease, for it may be overlooked as a cause of arthritis in such patients.

Due to advanced treatments in the field of heart disease, cyanotic heart disease patients have a greater chance of survival, and nowadays many of them live until adolescence or middle age. One of the signs of this disease is blood hypoxia, which has acute and chronic effects on the CNS. In this paper the effect of chronic hypoxia on children affected by cyanotic congenital heart disease (CH...

Cor triatriatum is an acyanotic congenital heart disease. We present a rare case of cor triatriatum sinistrum in a 6-month-old female infant who was presented with cyanosis and failure to thrive. The 2D transthoracic echocardiography and the Doppler color flow imaging showed a proximal venous chamber communicating to the distal left atrium through restrictive opening to the low-pressure, dis...

متن کاملThe relation of serum uric acid to haemoglobin level in patients with cardiac and respiratory disease.
An investigation was made of the serum uric acid in 130 male patients with long-standing cardiac or pulmonary disease. The mean serum uric acid was 4.66 mg. per 100 ml. with a standard deviation of +/-0.99. The serum uric acid increased parallel with a rise in the haemoglobin level. The coefficient of correlation was +0.5, which was nearly six times the standard error. The frequency of hyperuri...
